Breast Reduction Surgery

Breast reduction surgery, also known as reduction mammaplasty or mammoplasty, removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin to reshape and reduce the size of the breasts. The goal of this procedure is to achieve a breast size that’s more proportionate to your body.

When to Have Breast Reduction

Overly large or disproportionate breasts can be a source of physical and emotional discomfort. You may want to consider breast reduction for various common reasons, including:

• If your breasts are too large for your frame and are causing neck, back, shoulder, or other physical pain
• If one of your breasts is significantly larger than the other
• If you have heavy breasts with downward-pointing nipples and areolas
• If you are unhappy with the appearance of your breasts from weight gain or aging
• If you have poor posture due to the weight of your breasts

Although patients of any age can have a breast reduction, the procedure is best performed on fully developed breasts.
