Mommy Makeover Surgery
After moms have reached the end of their childbearing years, they often want help restoring their bodies to a condition where they feel confident again. Plastic surgeons call this a “mommy makeover,” which includes a variety of post-maternity breast and body reshaping procedures that can rejuvenate the breasts and tummy.
Procedures commonly included in a mommy makeover to correct drooping breasts, enlarged areolas, a fuller waistline, fat pockets in the abdomen, stretch marks, and a sagging tummy are:
- Breast lift (mastopexy)
- Breast augmentation
- Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)
- Liposuction
- Buttock augmentation
Plastic surgery shouldn’t come before a good exercise routine and healthy diet, but even the best regimen may not be enough to reverse some of the permanent changes to the body post-pregnancy.
Before considering a mommy makeover, it’s best if you’re:
- Done having children and finished breastfeeding your last child at least several months prior to surgery
- At a stable weight
- At the peak in your weight loss efforts
One of the advantages of a mommy makeover is that it’s usually more cost effective to have multiple surgeries at once. Recovery can take longer, however, so be sure to discuss with your plastic surgeon how long it may take in your particular situation.
Your board-certified Kelsey-Seybold plastic surgeon will point out the risks associated with a mommy makeover, which can include bleeding, infection, poor incision healing, hematomas, loss of nipple sensation, implant leaking, scarring, asymmetry, and others.
