Varian TrueBeam Treatment for Cancer
Varian TrueBeam is an advanced radiotherapy system for treating cancer. Advanced imaging, sophisticated targeting and motion control allow us to deliver accurate treatments in just minutes a day.
TrueBeam™ technology uses noninvasive, tumor-destroying radiation to treat cancer while at the same time minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.
Advanced imaging, sophisticated targeting and motion control allow us to deliver accurate treatments in just minutes a day. Because of its meticulously precise accuracy, the TrueBeam system can be used to treat many different types of tumors, including those in the head and neck, abdomen, liver, lung, breast, pelvis and prostate.
The TrueBeam system combines three advanced components: 3-D imaging, beam delivery and motion control. Imaging allows your radiation oncologist to "see" the tumor he’s about to treat and apply very accurate and precise beams of radiation to it. Motion control technology allows your doctor to compensate for any movement you make during treatment, such as breathing, so that the beam stays focused on your tumor.
Because of TrueBeam’s increased accuracy, radiation can be given quicker, which is more comfortable for the patient.
Designed with patient comfort in mind, TrueBeam operates quietly and features built-in music so patients can listen to music during treatment for a more soothing environment. Three closed-circuit TV systems with two-way audio keep patients in constant and continuous contact with the clinician running the machine and closely monitoring their comfort.
The TrueBeam system can deliver many forms of radiotherapy, including:
- Image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT)
- Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT)
- Intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT)
- Three-dimensional conformal therapy (3DCRT)
- Electron radiation (superficial radiation)
This allows Kelsey-Seybold physicians to tailor your specific radiotherapy treatments.
