Laparoscopy with da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System

Technological surgical advancements have made it possible for Kelsey-Seybold physicians to offer patients minimally invasive, robotic-assisted surgery via the da Vinci® Surgical System, even for the most complex of gynecological procedures.

Unlike traditional open surgery, which uses a large incision to access the uterus and surrounding areas, da Vinci robotic surgery allows doctors to perform surgical procedures through just a few tiny incisions. This allows for a generally safer procedure that gets patients back to life faster than open surgery.

How It Works

The da Vinci system is powered by robotic technology that allows the surgeon to make hand movements that guide the smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments that have been inserted into small incisions in the patient's skin.

One of the instruments is a laparoscope, which is a thin tube with a tiny camera at the end, hence the terms “laparoscopy” and “laparoscopic surgery.” The camera sends images to a monitor in the operating room so the doctors can view what's happening inside the patient's body during surgery. The surgeon is completely in control of the da Vinci system during the entire procedure.

• Fibroid removal (myomectomy)

• Excision/removal of endometriosis
